In terms of scientific and technical papers, according to the statistics of SCI database, the total number of scientific and technical papers in the world in 2018 was 2,069,700, of which 20.20% came from China, and the percentage of SCI papers published by Chinese scholars was second only to the U.S., ranking 2nd in the world for 10 consecutive years.In 2018, Chinese universities, research institutes and other scientific research institutions published 418,200 SCI papers, compared to 57,000 in 2017, a growth rate of 15.78%, which is 2.3 times of the 6.8% growth rate of the total number of SCI papers in the world.

In terms of scientific citations, in 2019, among the papers that accounted for the top 1% of world citations, 4,930, or 28.3%, were U.S. studies. In comparison, China had 4,744 studies, or 27.2 percent, ranking second in the world.

Meanwhile, the statistical report of Chinese scientific and technical papers in 2022 released by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information shows that the total number of high-level papers published in China exceeded 80,000 in 2021, accounting for 35.3% of the world total and ranking second in the world. 1,808 hot papers were published in China in 2022, accounting for 41.7% of the world total, up 19.3% from 2021, the growth rate is the first in the world.

The above data once again prove that the scale of China's journal paper market is in the world leading position.
